GREENING SAN DIEGO’S COMMUNITIES
At SDG&E®, we’re all about growing greener communities — literally!
Through our Environmental Champions grant initiative, we’re proud
to announce that since the launch in 2011, SDG&E has invested over
$10 million in shareholder funds to community-based environmental
efforts. In 2024, 30+ organizations received grants for habitat
restoration, tree planting and community and school gardens enabling
nonprofits to plant more than 2,000 trees and restore over 200 acres
of habitat.
SDG&E’s funding helped the San Diego Parks Foundation (SDPF)
plant 138 trees at Montgomery-Waller Park, Naval Training Center
Park, Officer Christopher Wilson Park and Southcrest Trails. This
effort builds upon past initiatives that create safe and inviting green
spaces, promoting environmental stewardship in urban areas.
“Funding from SDG&E’s Environmental
Champions grant program has allowed us to
increase our tree planting efforts in some of
San Diego’s most underinvested neighborhoods.
Through this partnership, as well as the support
from several other donors, we are making
incremental progress toward meeting our
City’s Climate Action Plan goals and improving
quality of life.”
— Leona Sublett, President and CEO, SDPF
By investing in the environment, SDG&E is helping create healthier,
more resilient communities — one tree at a time.
